Job Description

Meadow Mart is hiring a Shop Assistant to provide excellent customer service, passionate care for our awesome products, and caring contribution to the overall success of our locally-owned shop. We are seeking both part time and full time employees.

We are a small neighborhood grocery that offers treats, good food and robust community. We value camaraderie and good quality, nourishing food that supports the fabric of community. We see diversity and flexibility as strength; there is room in the world for kale and kit kats. 

Shop Assistant duties include welcoming and assisting customers with purchases, maintaining product displays and the overall store appearance, and working with the whole team to make Meadow Mart a satisfying place to shop, work, and build community. Management and growth opportunities available.


  • Wages start at $16/hr with opportunity for increase depending on roles and responsibilities taken 

  • Discount on store purchases (excluding alcohol and tobacco products)

Physical requirements

This job requires physical labor including stocking shelves, cleaning, and managing product inventory. Employees must be able  to navigate stairs and be able to lift up to 35 lbs confidently. 

Customer Service

  • Welcome all customers and help them find what they need

  • Run the register in an efficient and accurate manner

  • Treat everyone who enters the store with compassion and honesty


Store Upkeep

  • Keep merchandise shelves stocked, clean, and tidy. Merchandise includes produce, grocery, beverages, frozen items, and household goods. 

  • Light food service duties include preparing coffee, packing retail portions of prepared foods, and ensuring all food handling practices are sanitary and to code 

  • Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change

  • Clean up messes that occur throughout the shift 



  • Clock in and out on time for your shifts

  • Assist all team members with other tasks as needed

  • Follow Meadow Mart systems of operations, administration, and general conduct 

  • Use good communication practices to create a Meadow Mart community that is based in trust and teamwork 

  • Attend staff meetings (paid)
